Anode slime exempted from VAT

The government has issued Government Regulation No 106/2015, which exempts value added tax (VAT) for anode slime, a raw material for gold bar production, Kontan reported Tuesday.

The paper quoted Director General of Mineral and Coal Bambang Gatot Ariyono as saying that the new regulation, which will be effective January 27, will help encourage the development of anode slime production facilities in the country to process the byproduct of copper mining.

He said that anode slime plant projects had been hampered by the VAT requirement which make the projects to be not economically feasible.

IDX-listed mining firm PT Aneka Tambang Tbk is planning to build a US$43 million anode slime facility with production capacity of 2,000 tons per year.(*)
