A fatal workplace accident occurred at PT ASL Shipyard in Tanjung Uncang, Batam, Riau Islands on Monday, December 29, 2025, claiming the life of a subcontractor worker, local media reported.

The victim, Ramli Syaifuddin, 33, an employee of PT Vinnex Coatindo, died after being electrocuted while working at Dock 1 of ASL Shipyard at around 14:30 WIB. At the time of the incident, Ramli was painting the hull of the vessel ASL Sentosa (IMO: 9450882) using a manlift operated by a co-worker.

According to the Head of the Riau Islands Manpower and Transmigration Office, Diky Wijaya, the manlift moved beneath an overhead electrical cable connected from a panel to the ship’s main deck. The manlift arm came into contact with the cable, resulting in an electric shock to the victim.
