Danantara Indonesia Chief Executive Officer Rosan Roeslani said the sovereign wealth fund is open to exploring strategic investment opportunities in Indonesia, including the potential acquisition of stakes in foreign-owned companies.

Rosan made the remarks in response to reports that Danantara may acquire shares held by French mining company Eramet in nickel miner PT Weda Bay Nickel (WBN), which operates in North Maluku.

“Basically, we are open to discussions and conversations regarding investments in Indonesia. Danantara can also become a strong local partner,” Rosan told reporters at the Presidential Palace complex in Jakarta on Tuesday.

He said discussions regarding the proposed acquisition remain at an early stage and that no final decision has been made.

“We are open. We are also in discussions with Eramet,” he added.

Rosan said Danantara’s potential involvement could help strengthen Indonesia’s position in strategic national projects, particularly in the downstream minerals sector.

In 2025, Eramet Indonesia Chief Executive Jerome Baudelet said the company was intensively discussing strategic investment cooperation in the nickel sector with Danantara and the Indonesia Investment Authority (INA).

At the time, the parties were exploring the establishment of a strategic investment platform covering Indonesia’s nickel value chain, from upstream mining operations to downstream processing activities.

Danantara Chief Investment Officer Pandu Sjahrir previously said the collaboration aims to support the development of a sustainable and integrated electric vehicle battery raw material ecosystem in Indonesia.

Under the proposed partnership structure, Danantara and INA would manage long-term financing for investment development, while Eramet would contribute technical expertise and operational experience in large-scale mining projects aligned with international sustainability standards.
