PT Transportasi Gas Indonesia (TGI) reported a gas pipeline leak and fire incident on the Grissik–Duri (GD) pipeline at KP222 in Batu Ampar Village, Kemuning District, Indragiri Hilir Regency, Riau, on Friday, January 2, 2026.

TGI said the incident occurred at around 16:35 WIB on the GD pipeline segment, which is owned and operated by the company. TGI is 60 percent owned by PT Perusahaan Gas Negara (Persero) Tbk (IDX: PGAS).

According to TGI Corporate Secretary Emil Ismail, the company immediately shut down compressors and closed nearby section valves to stop the gas flow. TGI also secured the location and coordinated with local fire services, regional authorities, and the Riau Police’s vital object protection unit. Monitoring of gas pressure for shippers and buyers on the Grissik–Duri pipeline was also carried out.

The pipeline leak was followed by a fire near the East Sumatra Highway, prompting authorities to temporarily close the road for safety reasons and causing traffic disruption between Riau and Jambi. Several residents near the site evacuated temporarily as a precaution.

TGI and local authorities confirmed that there were no fatalities or injuries among workers or the public. Fire suppression efforts were constrained by residual gas pressure in the pipeline.

An investigation by TGI and relevant authorities is ongoing to determine the cause of the incident.
