Indonesia's Geological Agency has signed an implementation agreement with the Chengdu Center of the China Geological Survey (CC-CGS) to strengthen cooperation in geochemical mapping and mineral resource assessment, the Energy and Mineral Resources Ministry said.
The agreement was signed last week in Bandung between the ministry's Center for Mineral, Coal and Geothermal Resources (PSDMBP) and the Chengdu Center, which operates under China's Ministry of Natural Resources.
Geological Agency head Lana Saria said the agreement marked an important milestone in expanding technical and institutional cooperation between the two countries in the geosciences sector.
She said the partnership was expected to strengthen relations between the Indonesian and Chinese institutions and build on years of existing cooperation.
"We hope this cooperation will continue to grow in the years ahead, based on the principles of equality, mutual respect and mutual benefit," Lana said in a statement.
PSDMBP head Agung Pribadi said Indonesia's mineral resource potential and geological diversity give the country a strategic position in the global critical minerals supply chain, making scientific collaboration and advanced mineral resource assessments increasingly important.

He said cooperation in geochemical mapping, data processing and mineral resource evaluation would help strengthen the scientific capabilities of both organizations.
The agreement is expected to facilitate exchanges of scientific knowledge, technology and best practices, drawing on the China Geological Survey's experience in geological investigations, geochemical mapping and mineral resource evaluation, Agung said.
Cooperation between Indonesia's Geological Agency and the China Geological Survey dates back to a memorandum of understanding signed in Beijing in March 2010, which established a framework for scientific and technical collaboration in geosciences.
