Jasa Tirta I explores floating solar projects, targets new partnerships

State-owned water resources management company Perum Jasa Tirta I (PJT I) is pursuing partnerships to develop floating solar power projects across reservoirs under its management, including a planned 77-megawatt (MW) project at Wonorejo Reservoir in East Java.
Ivania Asianingsing, Head of Research and Development Sub-Division at PJT I, said the company is currently exploring cooperation with PT Nexa Power Energy to develop the Wonorejo floating solar project in Tulungagung, East Java. The project is estimated to require investment of $64.96 million and is currently in the pre-feasibility study stage.
PJT I is also promoting the development of a 256-MW floating solar project at Wadaslintang Reservoir in Kebumen, Central Java, which has been included in PLN's electricity supply business plan (RUPTL).
Separately, Ivania provided updates on three floating solar projects currently under development on PJT I-managed reservoirs.

The 100-MW Gajah Mungkur floating solar project in Wonogiri, Central Java, is under construction and is targeted to begin operations by the end of 2027. The project is being developed by PT Hijaunesia GCL Gajah Mungkur, a joint venture between PT Jasa Tirta Energi, PT PLN Indonesia Power Renewables and China's PT GCL Tirta Surya Investindo. The project is expected to generate 218 GWh annually and requires investment of $104.73 million.
The 100-MW Kedungombo floating solar project in Central Java, being developed by a consortium of PT PLN Indonesia Power and Saudi Arabia's ACWA Power, is expected to produce 220 GWh annually. The project carries an estimated investment value of $98.6 million and is targeted for commercial operation by late 2026 or early 2027.
Meanwhile, construction of the 100-MW Karangkates floating solar project in Malang, East Java, began in February 2026. The project is being developed by PT Nusantara Guodian Karangkates Indonesia, a consortium comprising PJT I, PT PLN Nusantara Power through PLN Nusantara Renewables, and China's GD Power Development Co. Ltd. The project is scheduled to commence operations in 2027 and is expected to generate 222 GWh annually.
