Minister inaugurates smelter industry association

Minister of Industry Saleh Husin officially inaugurated on Tuesday the recently-established Association of Processing and Refinery Industries (or also known under its Bahasa acronym of AP3I).

The association now has 22 members, which mostly already have operating smelters as one of the requirements to become a member is that progress of the smelter project must already reached more than 40 percent of targeted works, said AP3I Chairman Prihadi Santoso.

Prihadi hopes the association could become a partner of the Ministry of Industry in promoting cooperation between the business sector and the government.

Meanwhile, Saleh said that there are 16 domestic smelters which are already in operation, and six more are expected to begin operation in 2016.

Set up on May 20, 2015, AP3I?s members have made combined investment of around US$10 billion in domestic smelters, employing around 15,000 people.
