L. Harijanto, the spokesman for Pertamina?s Production Sharing Management said in Jakarta on Tuesday that Pertamina-West Java Ltd, started its production activities at the Echo well on the Ardjuna oil-field on September, 1971, about four years after it started its exploration on the offshore oil block in 1967.
?The production activity is a milestone in the history of crude oil production from the country?s offshore oil fields,? he said in a press statement.
During the early stage of its operation, Pertamina-West Java Ltd, had only proven oil reserves of about 45 million barrels on their Ardjuna field. In 1976, the realized production reached 100 million barrels, and in 1997 the production had expanded to about 1 billion barrels.
Harijanto said that Pertamina-West Java Ltd, which had invested a total of US$9.5 billion for the exploration and production activities on the offshore oil block, had contributed about US$15 billion to the state revenues since its first production.
Besides being the first offshore crude oil producer in Indonesia, Pertamina-West Java Ltd is also the first company, which developed cryogenic natural gas liquefaction. It is also the first company to operate an offshore oilrig and developed a horizontal oil well in Zulu field.
In late 2000, Pertamina-West Java?s production reached 60,000 barrels of crude oil per day and 10,000 bpd for liquefied petroleum gas. (Alex/Godang)
