The Philippines government has excluded Indonesia?s steel angle bars from having to pay safeguard import duty when entering the country as the Indonesia accounts for less than 3 percent of the country?s imports.

The Indonesian Ministry of Trade said in a statement obtained that this is in line with the World Trade Organization?s ruling, which stipulates that developing countries with import share of less than 3 percent should be exempted from the safeguard duty.

Acting Director of International Trade Karyanto Suprih said that the decision of the Philippines government to lift the safeguard duty on Indonesian steel angle bars was made July 16, adding that this should provide greater export opportunity for Indonesian producers.
