PJB establishes two new business units

PT Pembangkit Jawa Bali (PJB), a subsidiary of state owned electricity company PT PLN, has established two business units, which will respectively operate in trading and information technology.

Rachmat Harijanto, the president of the Surabaya-based company, said the establishment of the new subsidiaries were necessary as anticipation to face the free competition in the country?s electricity sector.

He said that the implementation of the multi-buyer and multi-seller system in the country?s electricity sector in next few years would give PT PJB no choices but to improve its competitive edges, unless it would not be able to survive.

According to him, the two new business units would be given flexibility to cooperate with other companies.

?We will focus the trading unit on the procurement of fuel and spare parts, while the IT unit will market the Mincom information management system,? he said, adding that the Mincom developed by PT PJB provides application program for operating, maintenance, finance, energy management and finance.

PT PJB, which was established in October 3, 1995 to handle PLN?s power plants in Java and Bali, is headquartered in Surabaya. (*)
