State electricity firmPT PLN (Persero) has formalized an expanded partnership with the Southeast Asia Energy Transition Partnership to accelerate Indonesia’s shift toward a low-carbon energy system, according to a joint statement released on April 29.
The agreement, signed with the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS)-backed initiative, broadens cooperation between the two parties to include studies on coal-fired power plant transition, development of smart grids and energy storage systems, and support for renewable energy deployment.
The signing ceremony in Jakarta was attended by PLN President Director Darmawan Prasodjo and UN representatives, underscoring the role of international collaboration in advancing Indonesia’s energy transition agenda.
Under the expanded scope, the partnership will focus on technical and pre-feasibility studies covering transmission and distribution strengthening, grid optimization, and energy storage deployment, as well as pathways for reducing reliance on coal-fired power generation.
PLN said the collaboration builds on an initial partnership established in 2021 and is intended to support the development of a resilient and sustainable power system while ensuring reliable electricity access across the country.
