Construction of a 50 MW solar power plant (PLTS) project in Melaya, Jembrana, Bali Province, planned by Akuo Energy Indonesia has yet to start as the company is still waiting for the result of a tender by state-owned electricity firm PT PLN to select the required technology.

“We’re currently waiting for the result of the procurement re-tender held by PLN. The tender was first opened last year but due to various reasons, it was repeated,” said Director of Project Development at Akuo Energy Indonesia, Refi Kunaefi to Petromindo.com on Thursday.

The PLTS Melaya project was initially targeted to start commercial operation this year.

But Refi said that according to the 2019-2028 electricity procurement business plan (RUPTL) of PLN, the estimated US$50 million project is targeted to start commercial operation in 2020. Aside from the power plant, Akuo will also develop the transmission and substation.

The PLTS Melaya project will be developed atop a 55-ha agriculture land. Like at other PLTS projects developed by Akuo, it will also apply the agro energy concept in the PLTS Melaya project, combining organic agriculture where solar PV panels installed at the rooftop.

Akuo and PLN signed a letter of intent in December 2017 on the PLTS Melaya project during the One Planet Summit in Paris.
