Police save Mobil Oil's sport center from arson

Police and military members foiled plans of an alleged separatist group to set ablaze the sports center of American oil and gas company Mobil in Lhoksemawe, North Aceh regency Tuesday evening, killing one attacker, Analisa and Tempo Interaktif reported.

North Aceh police chief Syafei Aksal said the police and military members rushed to the center after receiving the information on the arson plan.

He said the police officers and military personnel exchanged fire with the armed group - more than three of them - for about five minutes. The group soon fled the site, leaving the victim identified as Abdul Manan with wounds on the head and abdomen from gunshot.

Meanwhile, two unidentified men threw hand grenade to North Aceh regency council Wednesday evening, causing some damage on the building, Analisa and Tempo Interaktif reported.

No casualties were reported during the incident. (*)
