Satellite operator PT Pasifik Satelit Nusantara (PSN) last week has started operations of the Nusantara Lima satellite, extending satellite connectivity coverage across Indonesia, Malaysia and the Philippines.

The satellite, launched on Sept. 11, 2025, is part of PSN’s effort to expand Indonesia’s domestic satellite capacity and strengthen regional digital connectivity, President Director Adi Rahman Adiwoso said during an inauguration event in Jakarta.

Adi said the Philippines is expected to recognize Nusantara Lima as part of its national satellite capacity, while discussions with Malaysia are ongoing. He added Indonesia currently has around 400 gigabits per second of satellite capacity together with other national operators, making it one of the largest satellite capacity providers in the Asia-Pacific region.

PSN Group has invested more than Rp23 trillion, equivalent to about US$1.3 billion in Indonesia’s space industry over the past decade through three geostationary satellite programs. The company is also supporting plans for a spaceport project in Biak, Papua, in cooperation with Russia, India and Turkey.

Communication and Digital Affairs Minister Meutya Hafid said the satellite’s operation reflects Indonesia’s growing role in the global space industry and supports efforts to expand digital connectivity nationwide, including remote areas.
