Italian global energy firm Eni reported on Sunday that it has taken another significant step toward advancing sustainable energy solutions by joining the Coalition for LNG Emission Abatement toward Net Zero (CLEAN Initiative) and signing a Memorandum of Cooperation with the Japan Organization for Metals and Energy Security (JOGMEC). This collaboration marks a pivotal move in enhancing gas and LNG (liquefied natural gas) partnerships, further driving the transition to cleaner energy sources.

The Memorandum of Cooperation focuses on increasing diversification in the supply of gas and LNG. Both Eni and JOGMEC have committed to supporting the role of natural gas and LNG in the energy transition, balancing the need for economic growth with the drive to achieve carbon neutrality. The agreement will also explore LNG supply opportunities by Eni to Japan, backed by Japanese financial institutions, particularly in projects like the Coral North initiative in Mozambique.

As part of its broader sustainability initiatives, Eni has aligned itself with the CLEAN Initiative, which is backed by major Japanese and Korean LNG importers, as well as their respective governments. The initiative is designed to facilitate global evaluations of LNG projects and to promote best practices in reducing emissions across the entire LNG value chain. Japan and South Korea, the second and third largest LNG importers globally, are leading the charge in tackling decarbonization, a critical aspect of the CLEAN Initiative's mission.
