FGEN LNG Corp., a subsidiary of First Gen Corp., has obtained a 25-year permit to operate and maintain (POM) its interim offshore liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminal in Batangas City. The permit was granted by the Department of Energy (DOE), according to a filing with the Philippine Stock Exchange on Monday.
The terminal, which includes a multi-purpose jetty and an onshore gas receiving facility, forms part of the project’s initial phase. Designated as an “Energy Project of National Significance” under Executive Order No. 30, it aims to bolster the country’s energy security by adding natural gas capacity. First Gen highlighted its role as a bridge fuel to support the integration of renewable energy.

FGEN LNG has constructed its interim offshore LNG terminal project and executed a five-year time charter party for the charter of the BW Batangas, which will provide LNG storage and regasification services as part of the project.
The project aligns with the DOE’s Philippine Energy Plan 2023–2050, which prioritizes the transition to cleaner energy sources. It will also supply fuel to First Gen’s natural gas power plants in Batangas as needed, ensuring reliability during periods of high demand or supply disruptions.
First Gen, one of the Philippines’ leading power producers, did not disclose the financial specifics of the project.
