Singapore has doubled its power import capacity under the Lao PDR-Thailand-Malaysia-Singapore Power Integration Project (LTMS-PIP) Phase 2, increasing electricity trading capacity from 100 MW to 200 MW. This development is part of efforts to strengthen the ASEAN Power Grid (APG) and address Southeast Asia’s rising energy demand.

The Energy Market Authority (EMA) has extended Keppel’s electricity importer license until 2026, allowing the company to import electricity not only from Lao PDR but also from Malaysia, further enhancing the region's energy integration.

Launched in June 2022, the LTMS-PIP marks the first multilateral cross-border electricity trading of renewable energy among four ASEAN member states. The Phase 2 enhancements will allow for multidirectional electricity trading, improving grid resilience and supporting the ASEAN Economic Community’s energy goals.

Keppel Infrastructure’s CEO, Cindy Lim, emphasized the importance of the project in advancing the ASEAN Power Grid and strengthening regional energy connectivity. Keppel is Singapore’s first cross-border electricity importer and is playing a significant role in this initiative.
