Russian atomic energy corporation Rosatom Director General Alexey Likhachev held a meeting with Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto on Monday to discuss cooperation in nuclear energy development.

The discussions covered potential collaboration in nuclear power projects, nuclear infrastructure, personnel training and non-energy applications of nuclear technology.

Likhachev said Rosatom is prepared to support Indonesia’s nuclear program through a comprehensive approach that includes large scale nuclear power plants, small modular reactors and floating nuclear power units.

The meeting also addressed integration of nuclear energy into Indonesia’s electricity system, taking into account the country’s archipelagic geography.

As part of his visit to Indonesia, Likhachev is also scheduled to meet officials from the Energy and Mineral Resources Ministry, the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN), PT PLN (Persero) and the Regional Representative Council.

Russia and Indonesia have cooperated in the nuclear sector since signing an intergovernmental agreement on peaceful uses of atomic energy in December 2006.
