The South Sumatra Provincial administration has revoked 100 IUP mining business permits due to various problems including the failure of the miners to properly pay royalty, overlapping of permits, and breah of other regulations, local reports said on Monday.

?There are already 100 mining permits which have been revoked in South Sumatra, but I don?t remember them,? Provincial administration Secretary Mukti Sulaiman told the local media over the weekend.

He claimed that South Sumatra, one of the key coal producing regions in the country, has been the most advanced region in upholding regulations as evident from the number of IUPs which have been revoked.

He said that some of the miners whose IUP permits were revoked hold concessions which are overlapping with protected forest areas, while others breach existing regulations with regard to the operation of transportation facility as well as breach of the provincial zoning plan. (*)
