The upstream oil and gas regulator SKK Migas is stepping up efforts to boost national production through the use of multi-stage fracturing technology, including in mature fields in the Rokan block.
SKK Migas said it is working with contractors under its “Triple 100” program, which targets drilling 100 exploration wells, 100 multi-stage fracturing (MSF) wells and 100 additional development wells.
Deputy for Exploration, Development and Working Area Management Rikky Rahmat Firdaus said MSF technology is being deployed to improve output from low-quality reservoirs that still hold significant reserves.
“This program is aimed at increasing production from reservoirs that are difficult to produce, allowing existing potential to be optimized,” he said during a visit to the BLSE-050 MSF well at the Balam South East field in Riau, as quoted in a statement on Tuesday.

The field is operated by PT Pertamina Hulu Rokan in the Rokan working area.
SKK Migas is targeting 15 MSF wells in 2026 as part of efforts to lift output, with projects spread across the Balam South East, Bangko and Kotabatak fields.
Pertamina Hulu Rokan said the wells are expected to deliver higher production but involve greater technical complexity and costs.
Two wells have completed initial fracturing stages and are expected to start production by the end of May, while additional wells are in drilling and preparation stages.
SKK Migas said it will continue to oversee the projects to ensure they support national production targets and energy security.
