The Ministry of Trade and Industry (MTI), Energy Market Authority of Singapore (EMA), and the United States Department of Energy (US DOE) are set to begin the second phase of the United States-Singapore Feasibility Study on Regional Energy Connectivity during the Singapore International Energy Week (SIEW) through the Net Zero World Initiative.

Following the initial phase, launched in April 2023, which explored the renewable energy landscape and grid infrastructure across ASEAN countries, along with the potential of sub-sea interconnections, the second phase will focus on developing legal, governance, and financing frameworks to support regional energy connectivity in Southeast Asia, EMA said. The study highlights the benefits of sub-sea interconnections, including emissions reductions, lower capital and production costs, enhanced renewable energy deployment, and economic opportunities such as investment and job creation.
This phase will involve more regional countries and multilateral partners, contributing to the ASEAN Power Grid initiative, supporting cross-border electricity trading, and promoting decarbonization across Southeast Asia.
