About 50 villagers of Jereweh district, Sumbawa regency, West Nusa Tenggara blocked on Friday the access road to the operational site of copper and gold mining company PT Newmont Nusa Tenggara in Maluk to protest the company's employment policy, Lombok Post reported.

The villagers stopped all vehicles heading to Maluk, but Sumbawa police chief Lt. Col. Erlan Lukman Nulhakim said the security personnel managed to disperse them.

"There is no problem any longer," he said, adding the protest was related to Newmont's employment policy, including its layoff policy, but he did not provide further details. (*)
